Obama's positions seem to shift with the wind, or more precisely, with the audience he's speaking to. One of those positions is gay marriage.

He said before Iowa in this televised speech that he supported full equality for gays and lesbians.

At another televised speech before Iowa he had this to say:

You want the word marriage and I believe that the issue of marriage has become so entangled – the word marriage has become so entangled with religion – that it makes more sense for me as president, with that authority, to talk about the civil rights that are conferred" with civil unions, said Obama."

Obviously he softened his position because let's face it full equality for gays and lesbians would be legalized gay marriage. We've tried the whole separate but equal thing in America once and it didn't work.

He's also said he's against amending the constitution to ban gay marriage and it should be left up to the states to decide.

One state in particular is about to decide on gay marriage and that's California. It will come to a vote in November. And guess what Obama doesn't support the vote. So I'm confused about leaving it up to the states and then not supporting the effort to leave it up to the states. He had this to say:

"In a letter to the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club read Sunday at the group's annual Pride Breakfast in San Francisco, the Illinois senator said he supports extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples under both state and federal law."

"And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states," Obama wrote."

Oh now I get it, leaving it up to the states only counts when the state supports gay marriage.

And last night at a values forum hosted by the evangelical Rick Warren, Obama reasserted his position against gay marriage, support of civil unions and support of the right for each state to decide for themselves.

So when speaking to Christians Obama is for civil unions and against gay marriage. When speaking to Californians Obama is opposed to banning gay marriage which would effectively legalize it.

Now this position may not seem all that different. But remember the supreme court in California just ruled that gay marriage is legal, so if the voters do not overturn the will of the supreme court in November gay marriage would remain legal.

Obama Continues Flipping on Oil

Not only has Obama flipped on offshore drilling within the past few days now he's shifted his position on releasing the national oil reserves. He wants to release about 70 million barrels of oil. His reasoning is because Americans are hurting at the pump. But when Hillary called for a gas tax holiday he blasted it as a gimmick and gas prices were pretty high back then as well. In fact his shift comes at an odd time. Today's barrel of oil is selling for about $118, that's $25 less than just a few weeks ago. Gas prices are falling and Obama now decides to shift positions. It appears he's always behind the curve.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has for weeks supported releasing the reserves and she's been vehemently against offshore drilling. So it was no surprise when she sent the representatives on recess without a vote on drilling. What was a surprise, and I think a surprise to Pelosi herself, was the next day Obama flipped on offshore drilling. Since then Pelosi's anti-offshore drilling rhetoric has been toned down and now Obama suddenly supports releasing the reserves.

It's obvious Pelosi was not happy that Obama flipped without at least informing her first. To make up for it he agreed to support her foolhardy plan of releasing our emergency stockpile.

It's being reported that Obama has accepted illegal donations from two citizens of Palestine. In total two brothers dontated close to $30,000 to his campaign. For starters that's way over the maximun $2,300 an individual can legally donate to a campaign in a single election cycle. But it's also illegal to accept donations from foreigners. This of course raises the question of how many other illegal contributions the Obama campaign has accepted?

In an editorial piece in The Houston Chronicle, they ask, “How Would Barack Obama’s Positions Affect Houston And Its Residents”? Here is what they said:

“Houston is home to the Johnson Space Center. Obama has said he wants to postpone NASA’s Constellation program for five years. Should that happen, the gap between the end of the shuttle program and flight testing of a new spacecraft would exceed 10 years — years with no U.S. ability to fly humans in space. Would Obama really force such a gap, deterring Americans from pursuing careers in space science and crippling the U.S. space program for a generation?”

And today in the Orlando Sentinel, Obama said this about the Constellation Program:

“I think the constellation project is a bold vision but we haven’t thought through all the steps to get there and what the funding sources are.”

Obama it seems has never been able to take a steady stance on NASA at all. He talks about NASA “cannibalizing” other programs to keep the “shuttle program” going. Well, Obama wants to “cannibalize” the next generation NASA program, thereby dumbing down space exploration.

Hillary always maintained a steady course, calling for expansion of NASA and other space programs.It earned her an endorsement from none other than, John Glen, former Senator and astronaut. Here is the announcement in The Columbus Dispatch.

If Hillary were our presumptive nominee, would we have to deal with these flip-flops. In a one word answer. No.

Obama Flip Flops on Restoration of Mich. and Fla. Delegates

On Sunday Obama sent a letter to party leaders urging the Democratic Credentials Committee to restore Florida and Michigan's full voting rights at the convention. The delegates were originally stripped last year after the two states moved up their primaries in violation of party rules. Half of their delegates were restored in May after the rules and bylaws committee met. At that time Obama called for half of the delegates to be restored.

The Obama campaign fought hard against doing this months ago, but now after Hillary conceded he asks for party unity. This isn't party unity this is just another slap in the face for Hillary.

Obama Gives In to Offshore Drilling

After consistently opposing offshore drilling Obama has shifted positions and has now decided he may just support it (as do three quarters of the country). Most of the country was shocked when he appeared to give in because, let's face it, he's been so steadfast in his positions since Hillary conceded the primary.

"If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage - I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done."

At best his position is vague and convoluted. If for instance his new position on offshore drilling causes him a headache down the road he's left plenty of room to wiggle himself out of it.

Obama is a populist. During the primary he took the popular positions of his liberal base and now that the primary is over he's taking the popular positions of the general population. He's all style, no substance and more importantly he has no backbone.

It turns out Rep. Robert Wexler, who represents parts of South Florida, doesn't even live in Florida. It was reported by The O'Reilly Factor that Wexler, in fact, lives in Maryland. Now it isn't uncommon for congressmen to have homes in the D.C. area, however, Wexler reluctantly has admitted that he lists his in-laws residence as his own. His in-laws happen to live in a retirement community and Wexler, having three teenage children, wouldn't be allowed to live there even if he resided in Florida. Additionally Wexler accepts the housing deduction that congress gives to those who do have two residencies. The problem is Wexler doesn't really live in his Florida home so why should receive extra money?

After many members of the democratic party criticized (including Obama) Hillary's gas tax holiday it's learned that the Democratic National Convention Host Committee in Denver is not paying gas taxes on their purchases while in the state.

"There's something there that just doesn't seem right to me because, in a sense, you're saying then that the officials who pass the laws are not willing to live by them," said Councilwoman Jeanne Faatz.

They then accused the republican party of doing the same thing in Minnesota. The republican party immediately responded and said that was not the case. They have chosen to purchase their gas at public pumps.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has decided that the best way to reduce oil prices is to open up the government's emergency oil reserves. What's interesting is when Hillary supporterd a gas tax holiday for the summer Pelosi was vehemently against it. She had this to say:

"There is no reason to believe any moratorium on the gas tax will be passed on to consumers. That's first and foremost," she said. "Second, it will defeat everything we've tried to do to lower the cost of oil," noting that Democrats have been trying to shift the nation to alternative fuel sources, not promote gasoline consumption.

Now whether Hill's plan would have worked or not will always be up for debate. But if it didn't work, there wasn't much to lose. However, with Pelosi's foolhardy plan, there's a whole lot to lose. Obviously an emergency reserve is for emergencies, which I don't think includes a spike in oil prices. Furthermore the reserves could only fuel America for roughly 58 days. But actually she didn't call for an entire release she called on President Bush to release 10 percent, which would fuel us for 5.8 days. And end up leaving us with less reserves for emergencies, which is the whole point of the emergency reserve.

Hill's gas tax holiday would have lasted three months or roughly 90 days. And the only adverse effect would have been taking a little money away from the federal government. Pelosi's plan has the potential to leave us in a crisis if there was an emergency.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has once again decided to interject herself in to the VP debate. She now says:

I don't think we should be making an issue after the primary is over about who should be vice president. That would have been up to Hillary Clinton and would have been up to Barack. And it is up to Barack," said the Speaker, when asked about the possibility. "The only one thing important right now is party unity. None of us can afford the luxury of 'my candidate doesn't win the nomination' or 'my candidate wasn't chosen as vice president, I'm taking my marbles and going home.' The future of our planet is at stake: our budget, the constitution, the safety of our troops, everything is at stake in this election."

Perhaps Pelosi should be the one to stay out of the VP debate. It's clear she doesn't want Hillary as the Vice-President (Previous Post). If she truly cared about party unity she'd be pushing for Hillary to be on the ticket – not actively working against her. She came out a month or so ago and endorsed a little known representative from Texas as her choice for VP, even though it would do nothing for party unity or even help Obama carry an extra state. However, having a representative, who she clearly adores and is friends with, in the White House would give her a leg up and increase her own power. No it's very clear Pelosi has her own agenda and that agenda is certainly against Hillary, but not necessarily for Obama either.

Hillary received more votes that Obama did in the primary. In fact, more votes were cast for her than any other candidate in a primary in the history of the U.S. Furthermore, Obama does not have enough pledged delegates to win the nomination so why shouldn't Hill supporters worry about the VP spot? Why shouldn't we demand that she be on the ticket? She earned that right. And if Hillary was the presumptive nominee today many Obama supporters would be clamoring for him to on the ticket. In fact, I firmly believe she would have chosen him without a doubt, even if she hadn't wanted to. The establishment and media would have forced her to do so because for now he's their favored child.

Pelosi even admitted that she's one of the 70 percent. Of course she blames everything on the fact that the they haven't ended the war in Iraq yet and that's why the American public is disgusted. Newsflash Pelosi: there's more to this country than the war in Iraq.

Oh but that's not at all, she thinks that if only they had passed a timetable for withdrawal then all would be right in Congress and the American public would love them once again. I doubt it. Pelosi's term as speaker has been a complete failure. But I do agrees with her on thing – so has Bush's two terms.

There is no love lost between Hillary and Nancy Pelosi that much is for sure. And I believe she will do everything to sabotage Hill's chances of becoming V.P. In March she put it very bluntly that there would be no "dream ticket."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it’s “impossible” that Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton would run together on a single ticket. “I do think we will have a dream team. It just won’t be those two names,” Pelosi said during her weekly Capitol Hill press conference. “I don’t think it’s politically feasible.”

In May she said:

"When it comes to vice presidents, I'm not giving any advice unless asked about it by the candidates'."

The first statement sure sounds like advice or perhaps a warning to both candidates to me. But just a month later she actually endorsed a candidate for VP. Edwards...not that Edwards...instead Congressman Chet Edwards of Texas. Edwards represents Bush's hometown of Crawford.

Now she says:

Put all their names in a hat together -- anyone of them would be great. I've always tried to encourage Mr. Edwards to run for leadership or something. I think he's an extraordinarily talented person. We're talking about Chet Edwards -- member of congress from Texas. He's really one of the finest people I've ever served with. …

But she was very quick to add:

Let me say this. Any nominee Sen. Obama chooses is A okay with me. First and foremost, the nominee has to be happy with his person. If he's happy, I'm happy.

So exactly what is Pelosi's angle for suggesting Edwards? Perhaps nothing. But let me point out that she has yet to say anything good about an Obama/Clinton ticket. You would think she'd be able to find something good to say about it since Hillary won over 18 million hearts, and more importantly votes.

Perhaps Pelosi just wants to retain her position as the most powerful woman in Congress and sees Hillary as a threat. Well I think after this primary season even if Hillary isn't on the ticket, she is by far the most powerful and influential woman in this country. And Pelosi has a lot of catching up to do, considering her term as speaker has pretty much been a failure. A better name for her would be the do-nothing-speaker.

This past week the AP did an anaylsis of this election in regards to what an increase in the black vote could mean for Obama in the South. Obama last year predicted that if he were the nominee he would increase the black vote by 30 percent. The AP report gives Obama Georgia, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Virginia and Florida. It also puts Obama in a tie with McCain in Mississippi and he almost wins in South Carolina.

The UK's guardian, however, produced its own report and instead of using the last four presidential elections they are basing their anaylasis on the 2004 election. The author believes that this year will look a lot more like 2004 rather than the 90's.

Below is the full report:

The Associated Press moved a really interesting story Wednesday, chewing over the question of increased black voter turnout this November. It argued that Barack Obama's massive – well, check that, because we don't really know yet; assumed-to-be-massive – operations regarding voter registration and voter turnout could make him competitive in some southern states that have large black populations but have voted mostly Republican for decades.

We've all been reading about the Obama ground game. It's presumed to be on a scale like nothing we've ever seen. The Washington Post just reported that he's opening an unheard of 20 regional offices in the state of Virginia. There will be a breathtaking 150 paid staffers on the ground in Missouri, and they will operate out of 30 offices scattered around that state. And so on and so on and so on. I had just started to question whether he was really going to be able to raise enough money to keep paying all this rent and all these salaries, but I guess he just answered that.

The AP's Mike Baker writes that, based on an analysis of state-by-state margins in the last four presidential elections, "should Obama fulfil his pledge to elevate black participation by 30% … [it] would add nearly 1.8 million votes in 11 southern states, the analysis shows, enough to tip the balance in several that have been Republican strongholds."

I don't question the gist of this, but I do question AP's methodology a bit. Using averages from the last four presidential elections includes results from 1996, when a popular Democratic incumbent ran against a weak Republican opponent. Bill Clinton carried lots of states over Bob Dole that year that have since turned pretty red: Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas and West Virginia. Obama isn't going to have the appeal in those states that Clinton did, so I think including Clinton's margins over Dole constitutes reaching too far back into history and skews the results.

A simpler and, I think, more instructive way to look at this is just to examine the results from 2004. I've done some of my own ciphering, as they used to say down south, with regard to seven states – three genuine swing states, two possible swing states and two "tsunami" states, ie states that Obama will carry only if there's a real tidal wave for him that crests at just the right time.

Results? In only one of these seven states would even a 30% increase in black turnout erase George Bush's margin over John Kerry. It would get Obama close in the other six, but high black turnout alone won't put him in the White House. Let's have a look.

My three swing states are Florida, Virginia and Ohio. Let's take them in order.

Florida
Bush beat Kerry there by about 380,000 votes out of 8.1 million cast. Black turnout was 12%, or 970,000. A 30% increase in black turnout would yield an additional 290,000 votes. A more modest 20% increase would produce 200,000 more votes. Remember, Obama won't win every one of these new votes, but he probably will win 94% or 95% of them. But even at a 30% increase, Obama would be 90,000 votes short of Bush's margin.

Virginia
Bush beat Kerry by 266,000 out of 1.89 million cast. Black turnout was 21%, or 396,000. A 30% increase would add 119,000 black votes. A 20% increase, 79,000. Even the 30% increase leaves a deficit of 147,000.

Ohio
This is the one state in which a 30% black-voter increase would wipe out the Bush margin over Kerry. Bush beat Kerry there by just 120,000 out of 5.63 million cast. Black turnout was 10%, or 563,000. A 30% increase in Ohio would yield an added 169,000 voters. Twenty-percent would come up just short, at 113,000 votes.

The two potential states I chose are Missouri and North Carolina. Lots of people call Missouri a swing state, but given Bush's margins there over Al Gore and Kerry, I don't, quite.

Missouri
Bush won by 200,000 out of 2.74 million cast. The black vote was just 8%, or 219,000. A 30% increase would add 66,000 votes. Not enough.

North Carolina
Out of 3.49 million votes cast, Bush won by 430,000. Black turnout was 26%, or 907,000. A 30% increase would add 273,000 votes but still leave Obama around 157,000 votes short of Bush's margin.

Finally, the two tsunami states are Georgia and Mississippi. In both of these Bush won by wide margins – 540,000 out of 3.47 million cast in Georgia, and 227,000 out of 1.15 million cast in Mississippi. Black turnout was high in both states – 25% in Georgia and 34% in Mississippi. But a 30% increase in Georgia would still leave Obama 210,000 votes shy of Bush's margin, and the same increase in Mississippi would leave Obama 110,000 votes short.

Of course, "Bush's margin" is a bit of a chimerical category, I understand. Obama isn't running, as Kerry was, against an incumbent Bush during a war that the American public hadn't yet quite decided wasn't worth fighting in the first place. Whether McCain can equal the enthusiasm generated by Bush among Republican voters in these states remains to be seen.

And presumably, given the condition of the American economy, more independent voters will be voting Democratic. These factors probably make Obama's task less daunting than these numbers appear.

Even so, I think it's safe to say that Obama can't win solely or chiefly by ginning up the African-American vote. First of all, a 30% increase is a huge task. That's why I included some calculations above based on 20% increases, which seem perhaps more realistic. But even at 30%, Obama will need to build multiracial coalitions in these and other states. That's good, both in terms of the kind of campaign it will force him to run (one aimed at a wider swath of voters, which he seems inclined toward anyway) and in terms of the breadth of the mandate he will have should he win. But these numbers underscore that the expected-to-be-vaunted Obama ground game will need to be just that.

This is truly a superb article from the Washington Post that must be read:

Barack Obama wants to speak at the Brandenburg Gate. He figures it would be a nice backdrop. The supporting cast -- a cheering audience and a few fainting frauleins -- would be a picturesque way to bolster his foreign policy credentials.

What Obama does not seem to understand is that the Brandenburg Gate is something you earn. President Ronald Reagan earned the right to speak there because his relentless pressure had brought the Soviet empire to its knees and he was demanding its final "tear down this wall" liquidation. When President John F. Kennedy visited the Brandenburg Gate on the day of his "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech, he was representing a country that was prepared to go to the brink of nuclear war to defend West Berlin.

Who is Obama representing? And what exactly has he done in his lifetime to merit appropriating the Brandenburg Gate as a campaign prop? What was his role in the fight against communism, the liberation of Eastern Europe, the creation of what George Bush the elder -- who presided over the fall of the Berlin Wall but modestly declined to go there for a victory lap -- called "a Europe whole and free"?

Does Obama not see the incongruity? It's as if a German pol took a campaign trip to America and demanded the Statue of Liberty as a venue for a campaign speech. (The Germans have now gently nudged Obama into looking at other venues.)

Americans are beginning to notice Obama's elevated opinion of himself. There's nothing new about narcissism in politics. Every senator looks in the mirror and sees a president. Nonetheless, has there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?

Obama is a three-year senator without a single important legislative achievement to his name, a former Illinois state senator who voted "present" nearly 130 times. As president of the Harvard Law Review, as law professor and as legislator, has he ever produced a single notable piece of scholarship? Written a single memorable article? His most memorable work is a biography of his favorite subject: himself.

It is a subject upon which he can dilate effortlessly. In his victory speech upon winning the nomination, Obama declared it a great turning point in history -- "generations from now we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment" -- when, among other wonders, "the rise of the oceans began to slow." As Hudson Institute economist Irwin Stelzer noted in his London Daily Telegraph column, "Moses made the waters recede, but he had help." Obama apparently works alone.

Obama may think he's King Canute, but the good king ordered the tides to halt precisely to refute sycophantic aides who suggested that he had such power. Obama has no such modesty.

After all, in the words of his own slogan, "we are the ones we've been waiting for," which, translating the royal "we," means: " I am the one we've been waiting for." Amazingly, he had a quasi-presidential seal with its own Latin inscription affixed to his lectern, until general ridicule -- it was pointed out that he was not yet president -- induced him to take it down.

He lectures us that instead of worrying about immigrants learning English, "you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish" -- a language Obama does not speak. He further admonishes us on how "embarrassing" it is that Europeans are multilingual but "we go over to Europe, and all we can say is 'merci beaucoup.' " Obama speaks no French.

His fluent English does, however, feature many such admonitions, instructions and improvements. His wife assures us that President Obama will be a stern taskmaster: "Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism . . . that you come out of your isolation. . . . Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed."

For the first few months of the campaign, the question about Obama was: Who is he? The question now is: Who does he think he is?

We are getting to know. Redeemer of our uninvolved, uninformed lives. Lord of the seas. And more. As he said on victory night, his rise marks the moment when "our planet began to heal." As I recall -- I'm no expert on this -- Jesus practiced his healing just on the sick. Obama operates on a larger canvas.

It seems Obama has decided to quietly erase the fact that he once criticised the surge in Iraq. McCain who supported it from the beginning was actually correct in saying and believing it would work.

The Daily News report by James Gordon Meek says: "Barack Obama's campaign scrubbed his presidential Web site over the weekend to remove criticism of the U.S. troop ‘surge’ in Iraq, the Daily News has learned. The presumed Democratic nominee replaced his Iraq issue Web page, which had described the surge as a ‘problem’ that had barely reduced violence. ‘The surge is not working,’ Obama's old plan stated, citing a lack of Iraqi political cooperation but crediting Sunni sheiks - not U.S. military muscle - for quelling violence in Anbar Province. …

"Obama's campaign posted a new Iraq plan Sunday night, which cites an "improved security situation" paid for with the blood of U.S. troops since the surge began in February 2007. It praises G.I.s' ‘hard work, improved counterinsurgency tactics and enormous sacrifice.’ Campaign aide Wendy Morigi said Obama is ‘not softening his criticism of the surge. We regularly update the Web site to reflect changes in current events.’ ”

Rather than practicing a "new kind of politics" and admit he made a mistake, he acts like the Bush administration by ignoring it and never acknowledging his error in judgement. Of course that's understandable since Obama has frequently criticised his opponents judgement ever since he announced his candidacy for president. It's hard to criticise Obama's judgement because, let's face it, he hasn't been around long enough to actually have a record of any judgement, good or bad.

Obama: President of Africa?

Complaints Filed Against Obama Over Discounted Home Loan

It was reported last month by the Washington Post that Obama got a discount on his home loan.

Now Judicial Watch, a conservative government watchdog group, has filed two complaints, one with the Federal Election Commission and the other with U.S. Senate Ethics Committee.

“Americans ought to be suspicious when a United States Senator such as Barack Obama, obtains a sweetheart mortgage deal,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “We have serious concerns that Senator Obama’s mortgage may have violated the law and Senate ethics rules.”

Two other Democratic Senators, Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and Kent Conrad of North Dakota, are already under investigation by the ethics committee for receiving discounts on their home loans.

We need to contact the ethics to let them know we want Obama held accountable for his actions.

Infatuation With Obama Wearing Off

Some democrats in Washington have begun to privately that Obama’s presidential campaign is insular, uncooperative and inattentive.

“They think they know what’s right and everyone else is wrong on everything,” groused one senior Senate Democratic aide. “They are kind of insufferable at this point.

Here is a list of their complaints:

• Until a mailing that went out in the past few days, Obama had done little fundraising for Democratic candidates since signing off on e-mailed fundraising appeals for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee immediately after securing the Democratic nomination.

• Obama has sometimes appeared in members’ districts with no advance notice to lawmakers, resulting in lost opportunities for those Democrats to score points by appearing alongside their party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

• The Obama campaign has not, until very recently, coordinated a daily message with congressional Democrats, leaving Democratic members in the lurch when they’re asked to comment on the constant back and forth between Obama and John McCain — as they were when Obama said earlier this month that he would “continue to refine” his Iraq policies after meeting with commanders on the ground there.

• Coordination between the Obama campaign and the House and Senate leadership is so weak that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — who will chair the Democrats’ convention in August — didn’t know of Obama’s decision to move his final-night acceptance speech from the Pepsi Center to Invesco Field until the campaign announced it on a conference call with reporters.

The article goes on to say some of those democrats are saying "the Obama campaign now feels a “sense of entitlement” that leads to “arrogance.”

This isn't a surprise. Obama arrogance knows no bounds: Whether it's making a campaign speech in front of the Berlin wall, molesting the presidential seal and putting his name on it, telling supporters that lights will shine down upon them from heaven and tell them to vote for him, or saying people vote because they're bitter and cling to guns and religion.

Obama is a presumptuous, arrogant elitist.

Bush Democrat Barrow Wins Primary

Regina Thomas lost her uphill battle today to Bush democrat John Barrow. Her campaign was a long shot at best having only raised $21,000. Barrow, on the other hand, spent more than $800,000 on the primary fight. In addition he had the endorsement of Obama even though Barrow voted with the republicans more often than the democrats over the past four years.

Green Party candidate Cynthia McKinney called Obama a hypocrite and referred to his endorsement of Barrow "politics-as-usual."

Equal Pay Starts At Home

Obama continues his hypocrisy regarding equal pay for women. On June 23 he kicked off a “discussion for working women” with a speech directed at working mothers that criticized John McCain for his support of conservative judges, decisions and legislation. He went on to criticize the recent Supreme Court's decision to throw out a suit against Goodyear for pay discrimination because the woman who filed suit did so after the statute of limitations ran out.

The problem with Obama's position is that it's already been documented that he pays his female senatorial staff less than their male counterparts. And ever since Hillary conceded the primary he's been in a mad rush to put females in positions of authority in his campaign.

Just last Thursday he said:

“This isn't just an economic issue for millions of Americans and their families. It's a question of who we are as a country — of whether we're going to live up to our values as a nation,” he said.

“Usually, when we talk about the Court, it's in the context of reproductive rights and Roe v. Wade,” he continued, affirming — albeit in passing — his support for the 1973 abortion decision. “But the Supreme Court also affects women's lives in so many other ways — from decisions on equal pay, to workplace discrimination, to Title IX, to domestic violence, to civil rights and workers' rights.”

Nice words. But actions are what matters. And the fact remains he doesn't pay his female staffers the same as his males nor are there very many women in positions of authority in his campaign. Obama looks at women like he's a knight in shining armor that must come to the rescue of the damsel in distress. He doesn't look at them, nor treat them as equals. He treats them with disdain, just as it was evidenced when he referred to a female reporter as "sweetie."

First, I want to thank all of the people on this website who have been so supportive of my candidacy. As many of you are aware, I worked my way through the University of Massachusetts as a factory worker and later as a bank teller. I attended law school at night while I was a full time, third generation, professional firefighter. I have also worked as a commercial lobsterman out of the oldest fishing port in America-- Gloucester, Massachusetts.

For over 25 years, I have been a criminal defense attorney with extensive trial experience in courtrooms all across Massachusetts. I know how to fight and I know how to negotiate. I also know when to fight and when to negotiate.

I have been involved in politics nearly my entire life. My family and I have worked on dozens of campaigns and my aunt ran "Tip" O'Neill’s local office. As a loyal Massachusetts Democrat, I had been a long time supporter of Senator Kerry's and even introduced him at a fundraiser in the 1990's. During the 2004 election, I "maxed out" to Senator Kerry in order to defeat GWB.

Personally, I am at a point in my life where I have the time and resources to give back to our country. My daughter, a graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine and the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, has settled in working at Alice Waters' Chez Panisse Restaurant in Berkeley, California. With tuition bills at an apparent end, I have been financially able to devote this past year to campaigning full time.

The beginning of my candidacy can be traced to John Kerry's vote authorizing military action in Iraq. It was not the fact that John Kerry voted for the war, but it was because I felt John Kerry knew his vote was wrong and yet, he still voted for it. I then began to look at John Kerry in a different way.

My conclusion has now been confirmed in Robert Shrum's latest book. As many of you know, Robert Shrum was Senator Kerry's chief political advisor during the 2004 election and Mr. Shrum has stated John Kerry knew his vote was wrong and still voted for war authorization.

The bottom line is that John Kerry put his own personal political ambition to become President ahead of the best interests of our troops, their loved ones, this country and the world. There is no comparison between a Senator who voted for the war thinking it was the right decision and a Senator who voted for the war based upon his own political future.

With all of this in mind, it came as no surprise that John Kerry would go to the home state of his 2004 running mate and announce his support for a rival. I understand that John Edwards was not John Kerry's first choice for Vice President. According to most reports, John McCain was John Kerry's first choice for Vice President in 2004 and John McCain refused.

Prior to last month’s Convention, a former State Democratic Party Chairman called my candidacy a nuisance. He was right. There is no doubt that Democracy is a nuisance. In fact, King George III called the American Revolution a nuisance. The United States Senate is not the House of Lords.

Yet, this nuisance campaign, despite Senator Kerry’s best efforts to keep me off of the September primary ballot, garnered 1 in 4 delegates at the Massachusetts Democratic State Convention. I grew up believing the Democratic Party was the Party of working people and was, in fact, truly democratic. Much of want I witnessed of the Kerry campaign relative to the Convention was anything but, democratic.

Change is in the air here in Massachusetts. A recent Suffolk University/News 7 poll showed that over half of the people who voted in the last general election think it is time for Senator Kerry to not run again. His approval ratings are below 40%. A week or so ago, CNN and AP carried stories about my candidacy:

In order to defeat John Kerry, I need your help. John Kerry did not spend all of the money donated to him in 2004. In fact, he had $15 million dollars left over from his failed Presidential bid. This money was donated to defeat George W. Bush. Senator Kerry has taken $6.2 million from this fund and transferred the money to his present U.S. Senate fund. This could mean that Senator Kerry is now using the money I donated to defeat GWB against me.

Habla Espansol Obama?

Obama came under fire this week when he said that all American children should learn Spanish. On Friday he responded to the criticism by saying:

"This is an example of some of the problems we get into when somebody attacks you for saying the truth, which is: We should want our children with more knowledge. We should want our children to have more skills. There's nothing wrong with that. That's a good thing. I know, because I don't speak a foreign language. It's embarrassing," Obama said chuckling as his audience did the same."

The problem is, is that's not what he said.

"I don't understand when people are going around saying, 'We need to have English only.' They want to pass a law 'We want English only.' Now I agree that immigrants should learn English. I agree with that. But understand this. Instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English. They'll learn English. You need to make sure your child can speak Spanish.

Everyone would agree with the first statement. No one is against more education. But there are people that are against being told which language to learn. As for immigrants learning English, unfortunately that's simply not true. I live in South Florida, and guess what Obama, there are communities here that do not speak English. I have been to restaurants where I have had trouble ordering food because the wait staff cannot understand me. I believe that's a serious problem.

We may be a nation of immigrants, and in the early days of our country we have may have spoken many languages, but it's only recently that language has become an issue. In the early days immigrants eagerly learned the language, today they don't. It is my belief that language more than any other cultural tradition divides people. Just take a look at Canada, one of the most peaceful countries in the world. A large segment of their population wanted to succeed from the nation because of language. Just imagine if we tried to accommodate every language spoken in America – it would be total chaos. One nation, one language. Each person can decide if they want to learn another.

Clinton Delegate Responds to Challenge

Hillary delegate, Debra Bartoshevich, has officially responded to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin's request that she be stripped of her delegate status for vowing to vote for McCain in November.

Last month, Bartoshevich, ruffled the feathers of the state party when she told a local publication that she would be voting for McCain in November. The state party then filed a complaint with the National Democratic Credentials Committee asking them to strip her of her delegate status.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

"“I have voted Democrat throughout my life,” dedicated “countless hours” inside and outside the state to the Clinton campaign, and “my only job as I understand it was to be a committed delegate to Senator Hillary Clinton only and represent her supporters in my district.”

Writes Bartoshevich:

“I am one voice of 18 million voters (who backed Clinton). I am a hard working Hispanic nurse who cares for the most vulnerable population in a city hospital. My grandfather immigrated here from Mexico and supported his family by being a laborer. My grandfather taught me to never just ‘go along with the crowd.’"

Obama and the Death Penalty

Obama recently came out in opposition of the Supreme Court's decision to not allow child rapists to be executed. This stance has upset some of his liberal base. They've accused him of shifting to the center for the general election. In some cases he's shifted to the right. But Obama has continued to revise his position on the death penalty ever since he was elected to office in the 90's.

1996: Filled out a questionnaire stating he was flatly against capital punishment.
2004: Filled out a questionnaire stating he was only for the "death penalty for only the most heinous of murders, such as serial killing. But then qualified his stance, saying that his support eroded further when looking at how the death penalty 'is currently administered in this country.'"
2006: From his book Audacity of Hope: "While the evidence tells me that the death penalty does little to deter crime, I believe there are some crimes--mass murder, the rape and murder of a child--so heinous that the community is justified in expressing the full measure of its outrage by meting out the ultimate punishment. On the other hand, the way capital cases were tried in Illinois at the time was so rife with error, questionable police tactics, racial bias, and shoddy lawyering, that 13 death row inmates had been exonerated."
2008: "I have said repeatedly that I think that the death penalty should be applied in very narrow circumstances for the most egregious of crimes," he said. "I think that the rape of a small child, 6 or 8 years old, is a heinous crime, and if a state makes a decision that under narrow, limited, well-defined circumstances, the death penalty is at least potentially applicable, that does not violate our Constitution."

So Obama was against the death penalty before he was for it. He doesn't believe that the death penalty deters crime and believes the system is rife with error, not only in Illinois, but throughout the nation. In fact 13 people that were on death row in Illinois were exonerated, which begs the question "How many innocent people were put to death in Illinois throughout the years?" Why does he support it?

He believes that community outrage should be a determining factor in whether or not the death penalty should be administered.

Let's take a look at community outrage. In 1934 Claude Neal, a 23-year-old African-American, was arrested and accused of the murder of a woman. The community was outraged and proceeded to take Neal to a secluded spot where he was tortured for 10 to 12 hours. First they cut off Neal's penis and he was made to eat it. Second they cut off his testicles and was made to eat them. Then they sliced his sides and stomach, cut off his fingers and toes, and red hot irons were used all over his body.

Personally I don't think community outrage should be the determining factor in whether someone lives or dies.

Obama and Abortion Part 1: Does Obama have an Infanticide Problem?

First let me say I am pro-choice and a supporter of a woman's right to choose. But Sen. Barack Obama's record on abortion is so extreme that even I am appalled.

While in the Illinois Senate Obama repeatedly attempted to stall the passage of the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. And he repeatedly succeeded.

The Born Alive act extended legal protection to an infant born alive after a failed attempt at induced abortion. There's always been a debate about when life begins and when a baby's rights should begin. Some argue at conception, while others argue when the baby can survive on its own, and still others believe it doesn't begin until birth. But I've never heard anyone argue that after birth, a baby should not be given the full rights of a human being and be treated as humanely as possible.

Some people might question whether a bill like BAIPA is even necessary. But anyone that knows the story of Jill Stanek would understand why it is. Stanek, who was once a nurse at a Chicago hospital, saw first hand what happened to aborted children that happened to be born alive. Here's her story:

"One night, a nursing co-worker was taking an aborted Down’s syndrome baby who was born alive to our Soiled Utility Room because his parents did not want to hold him, and she did not have time to hold him. I could not bear the thought of this suffering child dying alone in a Soiled Utility Room, so I cradled and rocked him for the 45 minutes that he lived. He was 21 to 22 weeks old, weighed about ½ pound, and was about 10 inches long. He was too weak to move very much, expending any energy he had trying to breathe.
Toward the end, he was so quiet that I couldn’t tell if he was still alive unless I held him up to the light to see if his heart was still beating through his chest wall. After he was pronounced dead, we folded his little arms across his chest, wrapped him in a tiny shroud, and carried him to the hospital morgue where all of our dead patients are taken.
Other coworkers have told me about incidences of live aborted babies whom they have cared for. A Support Associate told me about a live aborted baby who was left to die on the counter of the Soiled Utility Room, wrapped in a disposable towel. This baby was accidentally thrown into the garbage, and when they later were going through the trash to find the baby, the baby fell out of the towel and on to the floor. A nursing coworker told me about an incident she was involved in last spring that she said “I just can't stop thinking about." She participated in the abortion of a healthy 23-1/7 week baby who was given no medical assessments or care after delivery, but was allowed to languish for 2-1/2 hours until she died, even though she showed early signs of thriving." She went on to testify before Obama on several occasions fighting to give those unfortunate children some protection. She also went on to testify before the U.S. Congress along with co-worker Allison Baker, who witnessed three infants born alive and treated with disregard. (Read Allison's Story)

NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League), one of the most pro-choice organizations in America, didn't even oppose this measure. But when the bill came before the Illinois Senate Obama voted "present."

When a federal version of the law went before the U.S. Senate, it passed in 2002 by a unanimous vote. That means even the most liberal congressmen, such as John Kerry and Ted Kennedy voted for it.

Which begs the question, why did Obama skirt the issue?

Since then he's come up with a number of excuses on why he couldn't vote for it. He even said he supported the federal version of the bill but the not the Illinois version. Here is the difference in the language between the Illinois bill and the federal bill.

Illinois' paragraph (c): A live child born as a result of an abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate protection under the law.
Federal paragraph (c): Nothing in this section shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand, or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being "born alive" as defined in this section.

An amendment was offered to change the Illinois language to match the federal definition. However, it never made it out of the committee that Obama happened to chair.
The saddest part of this story is the fact that we treat our animals more humanely than the child Stanek's rocked in her arms that tragic night. And Obama tried to find every way possible to make sure the bill did not pass. In fact, he was the only senator who actually questioned the bill on the floor before it came up for a vote.

This is what he had to say:

"… I just want to suggest … that this (legislation) is probably not going to survive constitutional scrutiny.

Number one, whenever we define a pre-viable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we’re really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a — child, a 9-month-old — child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place."

Now critics, like Media Matters for America, say that this quote was taken out of context. They argue that he wasn't arguing in favor or condoning the inhumane treatment of babies that have been born alive, but instead he was arguing that the bill was too broad and it would "essentially bar [all] abortions."

However, there is a problem with this argument. The federal bill, which Obama says he would have supported, defines a person as:

"at any stage of development, who after such expulsion or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut, and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion.at any stage of development, who after such expulsion or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut, and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion."

If Obama was trying to say that he didn't want to give protections to pre-viable fetuses that were born alive, the federal bill did, in fact, do that. As for its constitutionality, well no one's cared to challenge it yet.

Even if a botched abortion produces a living breathing child, whether that child will survive one day or one week, it should still garner the dignity and respect of a human being. The child should be treated humanely and not simply tossed in to a soiled laundry room to die alone. Obama goes on to say:

"The second reason that it would probably be found unconstitutional is that this essentially says that a doctor is required to provide treatment to a previable child, or fetus, however way you want to describe it. Viability is the line that has been drawn by the Supreme Court to determine whether or not an abortion can or cannot take place. And if we're placing a burden on the doctor that says you have to keep alive even a previable child as long as possible and give them as much medical attention as -- as is necessary to try to keep that child alive, then we're probably crossing the line in terms of unconstitutionality."

But there is another problem with his argument. If he believed that the bill would essentially ban all abortions or the bill was not constitutional then why vote present? Why not just vote no? He obviously stated on the Senate floor of he did not believe in the bill, but yet went ahead and voted present.

And then he lied about it.

He discussed the topic of abortion with a reporter recently and had this to say about the BAIPA:

"There was a bill that came up in Illinois that was called the 'Born Alive' bill that purported to require life-saving treatment to such infants. And I did vote against that bill," Obama said Tuesday. "The reason was that there was already a law in place in Illinois that said that you always have to supply life-saving treatment to any infant under any circumstances, and this bill actually was designed to overturn Roe v. Wade, so I didn't think it was going to pass constitutional muster."

First, he didn't vote no, he voted present. Second, if there was already a law in place that said you always have to supply life-saving treatment to any infant under any circumstances then why didn't he say that at the time? But regardless, Jill Stanek testified before Obama stating that's exactly what wasn't happening in her hospital. Her story alone should have swayed his vote just as her and Allison Baker's testimony swayed the U.S. Congress.

Obama also said this about why didn't support BAIPA:

"What we are doing here is to create one more burden on women, and I can't support that."

So it seems that Obama has offered numerous reasons and excuses on why he didn't support the bill. And he's continuing to refine those reasons. We'll see if the media ever decides to point out the obvious.

And we shall see if the republicans use abortion during this election cycle. So far the so-called moral issues have not taken front and center. But more importantly will anyone care?

To end this article on a good note the Illinois legislature did finally pass a version of the Born Alive act, in 2005 – a couple of years after Obama left the state Senate.

My name is Jill Stanek, and I am a registered nurse who has worked in the Labor and Delivery Department at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois, for the past 5 years. Christ Hospital performs abortions on women in their second or even third trimesters of pregnancy. Sometimes the babies aborted are healthy, and sometimes they are not.

The method of abortion that Christ Hospital uses is called ''induced labor abortion,'' also now known as ''live-birth abortion.'' This type of abortion can be performed different ways, but the goal always is to cause a pregnant woman's cervix to open so that she will prematurely deliver a baby who dies during the birth process or soon afterward.

The way that the induced abortion is most often executed at Christ Hospital is by the physician inserting a pill called Cytotec into the birth canal close to the vagina. Cytotec irritates the cervix and stimulates it to open. When this occurs, the small, pre-term baby drops out of the uterus, often alive. It is not uncommon for a live aborted baby to linger for an hour or two or even longer. One of these babies was known to live for almost an entire 8-hour shift.

In the event that a baby is aborted alive, he or she receives no medical assessments or care, but is given only what the Christ Hospital calls ''comfort care.'' Comfort care is defined as keeping the baby warm in a blanket until he or she dies, although even this so-called compassion is not always provided. It is not required that these babies be held during their short lives.

One night, a nursing co-worker was taking an aborted Down's syndrome baby who was born alive to our Soiled Utility Room because his parents did not want to hold him and she did not have time to hold him. I could not bear the thought of this suffering child dying alone in a Soiled Utility Room, so I cradled and rocked him for the 45 minutes that he lived. He was about 22 weeks old, weighed about a half a pound, and was about 10 inches long, about the size of my hand. He was too weak to move very much, expending any energy that he had trying to breathe. Toward the end of his life he was so quiet that I couldn't tell if he was still alive unless I held him up to the light to see if his little heart was still beating through his chest wall. After he was pronounced dead, we folded his little arms across his chest, tied his hands together with a string, wrapped him in a tiny shroud, and carried him to the hospital morgue where all of our other dead patients go.

The mark that this little person's untimely death left on my heart will never go away. In large part, I ended up here today because of that baby.

Other co-workers have told me upsetting stories about live aborted babies whom they have cared for. I was told about an aborted baby who was supposed to have spina bifida, but was delivered with an intact spine. Another nurse is haunted by the memory of an aborted baby who came out weighing much more than expected—almost 2 pounds. She is haunted because she doesn't know if she made a mistake by not getting that baby any medical help. A support associate told me about a live aborted baby who was left to die on a counter in our Soiled Utility room wrapped in a disposable towel. This baby was accidentally thrown in the garbage. Later, when they were going through the trash trying to find the baby, the baby fell out of the towel and onto the floor.

I was recently told about a situation by a nurse who said, ''I can't stop thinking about it.'' She had a patient who was 23-plus weeks pregnant, and it did not look as if her baby would continue to be able to live inside of her. The baby was healthy and had up to a 39 percent chance of survival, according to our national statistics. But the patient chose to abort. The baby was born alive. If the mother had wanted everything done for her baby at Christ Hospital, there would have been a neonatologist, a pediatric resident, a neonatal nurse, and respiratory therapist present for the delivery, and the baby would have been taken to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for specialized care. Instead, the only personnel present for this delivery were an obstetrical resident and my co-working friend. After delivery, the baby, who showed early signs of thriving—her Apgars improved—was merely wrapped in a blanket and kept in the Labor and Delivery Department until she died two and a half hours later.

To me, something is very wrong with a legal system that requires doctors to pronounce babies dead but does not require them to assess babies for life. I am also very uncomfortable with the fact that the very doctors who may be miscalculating birth weights, due dates, or misdiagnosing fetal handicaps are the same ones deciding that these babies should not be assessed after delivery.

Shouldn't these babies be given the simple opportunity for second opinion, just as you and I do? No other children in America are medically abandoned like this.

Something is very wrong with a legal system that says doctors are mandated to pronounce babies dead but are not mandated to assess babies for life and chances of survival. In other words, our laws currently say that babies have no rights to medical oversight until they are dead. We look the other way and pretend that these babies aren't human while they're alive but human only after they are dead. We issue these babies both birth and death certificates, but it is really only the death certificate that matters. No other children in America are medically abandoned like this.

Abortion is a cancer that is literally killing America. It is killing our children while it is killing our consciences. It began when we took God out of our decision-making and proclaimed that the little beings growing inside of women were ''products of conception'' and not little girls and little boys. Who should be surprised that we keep pushing the envelope so that now we are aborting these ''products of conception'' alive? I even work at a hospital named ''Christ'' that does this very thing! It is beyond me to comprehend that we're doing what we're doing now, and so I can't even imagine what horrible ways we will think of next to torture our children. Please help put an end to this by proclaiming infants as American human being homo sapiens with the same legal and medical rights that you and I big people have. Thank you.

I am also an RN. I worked at Christ Hospital for a year between the time of August 1998 to August 1999. I am now presently a pediatric nurse in Charlottesville.

During this time, I witnessed three cases. When I first started, I was on day shift. I walked into the Soiled Utility Room to throw something away, and laying on the metal part of the table with nothing underneath, there was a fetus, a baby, moving vigorously, just laying there.

I went out to find the nurse who was responsible for this baby, and she said that the mother had been what they call a therapeutic abortion, as Jill had explained, and that she just didn't have time to do anything with the baby at the time, and that if I could, could I wrap the baby and put the baby in a warmer.

So I went to the Soiled Utility Room, wrapped the baby, and held the baby and found a warmer and placed the baby in the warmer. And for about two and a half hours, the baby maintained a heartbeat, the baby was alive. And for me, that was a new experience. I was there working in a high-risk facility. My patient was a 23-weeker, ruptured, who was trying to save her baby, laying in Trendelenburg position with her head down. So, therefore, I took care of a mom and I took care of an aborted baby.

The next case that I actually participated in was I had come on to shift and there was a patient that had delivered a baby, a 20-week fetus who had spina bifida. The baby, once again, was alive and the baby had a heartbeat. It took an hour and 45 minutes for this baby to finally expire.

Once again, my question was: What was the right of this baby? Some of the nurses said to me, ''Just leave the baby in the warmer,'' and some of them said, ''Comfort the baby.''

When I was at Christ Hospital, no one explained to me what we were supposed to do, and there was—nurses were doing all various kinds of things.

The last case that I experienced while I was there was a 16-week fetus that was aborted, and the baby was supposed to have had Down's. And the baby at 16 weeks was born with a heartbeat, and the parents thought that the baby would die right away because it was so early. The baby ended up living for approximately 45 minutes, and during this time, the parents were very upset and kept questioning me and other nurses: how come their baby wasn't dead, when was their baby going to die, why was their baby alive?

For me as a nurse in a labor and delivery unit, this was confusing. It was confusing for all the nurses. It was confusing for the parents. They thought they were just doing something good, but yet they had to sit and ask questions of when their baby was going to expire.

For us as nurses, we are taking care of babies that we really want to survive, and we are taking care of babies that are supposed to just die.

This is the statement that Allison Baker prepared for Congress:

In August of 1998 I began working in a high risk labor and delivery unit at Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. When I was hired, I was informed of a procedure called ''therapeutic abortion'' which was performed in the unit. This procedure was reserved for babies with particular conditions such as Down's Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Potter's Syndrome and many others. It was explained to me that in these cases, the mother would have an induced labor to expel the fetus in order to discontinue growth and life. This was an elective procedure and the patient was to be informed of all the details it involved.

Between August of 1998 and August of 1999, I witnessed three particular cases of therapeutic abortions at Christ Hospital first hand. The first occurred on a day shift. I happened to walk into a ''soiled utility room'' and saw, lying on the metal counter, a fetus, naked, exposed and breathing, moving its arms and legs. The fetus was visibly alive, and was gasping for breath. I left to find the nurse who was caring for the patient and this fetus. When I asked her about the fetus, she said that she was so busy with the mother that she didn't have time to wrap and place the fetus in the warmer, and she asked if I would do that for her. Later I found out that the fetus was 22 weeks old, and had undergone a therapeutic abortion because it had been diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. I did wrap the fetus and place him in a warmer and for 2 1/2 hours he maintained a heartbeat, and then finally expired.

The second case involved a couple who had requested a therapeutic abortion for their 20 week fetus with Spina Bifida. My shift started at 11:00 PM, and the patient delivered her fetus about 10 minutes before I took her as a patient. During the time the fetus was alive, the patient kept asking me when the fetus would die. For an hour and 45 minutes the fetus maintained a heartbeat. The parents were frustrated, and obviously not prepared for this long period of time. Since I was the nurse of both the mother and fetus, I held the fetus in my arms until it finally expired.

The third case occurred when a nurse with whom I was working was taking care of a mother waiting to deliver her 16 week Down's Syndrome fetus. Again, I walked into the soiled utility room and the fetus was fully exposed, lying on the baby scale. I went to find the nurse who was caring for this mother and fetus, and she asked if I could help her by measuring and weighing the fetus for the charting and death certificate. When I went back into the soiled utility room, the fetus was moving its arms and legs. I then listened for a heartbeat, and found that the fetus still was alive. I wrapped the fetus and in 45 minutes the fetus finally expired.

NYT Sees Through Obama's Change

Finally the New York Times sees through Obama's illusions – at least partially. The NYT rightfully criticizes Obama's flip-flops on the wiretapping bill and public financing. They go on to bash him on his new faith-based initiative plan, his support of overturning D.C.'s right to ban handguns in the city, and supporting the death penalty for crimes not involving murder. But the NYT isn't giving up hope on their "change" candidate. The last passage reads:

"There are still vital differences between Mr. Obama and Senator John McCain on issues like the war in Iraq, taxes, health care and Supreme Court nominations. We don’t want any “redefining” on these big questions. This country needs change it can believe in."

Obama already said yesterday he'd be open to refining his position on Iraq once he visits the country. We shall see if he can stand by his tax plan and health care plan.

Media Ignoring O'Reilly

Ed O'Reilly, John Kerry's democratic challenger in Massachusetts, must be considered such a long shot by the media it feels the need to simply ignore him.

A recent poll shows Kerry substantially leading Republican Jeff Beatty in Massachusetts by 58 to 27 percent. The other 15 percent must be undecided. But the problem is Kerry hasn't won the primary yet. He still has to get through O'Reilly first.

O'Reilly's name is nowhere to be found in the article. In fact it doesn't even mention that Kerry is facing a primary challenge.

I find the poll to be encouraging for both O'Reilly and Beatty. Kerry who's been the senator since 1984, and the 2004 democratic nominee, should be in a far better position. Instead this is first time since 1984 that he's faced a primary challenge. Everyone knows John Kerry, especially in Massachusetts so why is there still 15 percent of undecideds? Perhaps it's because the residents of Massachusetts aren't going to vote for Kerry just because that's what's always been done. Perhaps they're looking for a change.

Liberal Base Continues to Turn Against Obama

Dissatisfaction with Obama's stance on FISA continues to grow. FISA is the telecommunications bill that would limit legalize the gov'ts warrantless wiretapping program while giving immunity to telecoms that handed over private customer data to the government. Liberal activists were outraged when Obama decided to support the bill after opposing it earlier in his campaign. Obama has been accused of flip-flopping on several major issues since Hillary conceded the election but this issue seems to be the most egregious of them all for his liberal base. A social networking group, "Senator Obama - Please Vote NO on Telecom Immunity - Get FISA Right," formed Wednesday, June 25, on Obama's Web site. After a week it already boasts a membership of 14,500 people. It's now the number 1 social group on his Web site and is perhaps already the fastest growing group.

Has Drudge Drank Obama's Kool Aid?

It's amazing to think that largest bastion of conservatism on the Web, the Drudge Report, may have been drinking Obama's Kool-Aid all along. I didn't start viewing the Drudge Report until the election season began. But what I quickly noticed were how the headlines were clearly tilted against Hillary and in favor of Obama. Or in some cases some of the biggest bad news of the day against Obama was either completely left out or regulated to a subhead. If Drudge hopes to retain his credibility within conservatives he'd better change his no-bad-news-for-Obama policy.

If Hillary had flip-flopped on the war in Iraq and then did a double back flip in the same day this would have been plastered all over Drudge for days with the most unflattering pictures of Hillary Matt Drudge could find. Today's big headline is the lousy sell of fireworks in California. Is he serious? At least he could have some big patriotic headline today, but selling fireworks? I'm baffled.

Action Alert! Contact Senate Ethics Committee

A Washington Post article recently revealed that Obama received a discount on his home loan. Remember this is the same house that he purchased in a shady land deal involving now convicted felon Tony Rezko. Two other Democratic Senators, Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and Kent Conrad of North Dakota, are under investigation by the ethics committee for receiving discounts on their home loans.

So naturally that would mean Obama will soon be under investigation. Or will it? Probably not since the democrats control the senate, and it would be embarrassment to put the nominee under the investigation.

So we need to contact the ethics to let them know we want Obama held accountable for his actions.

Machinists Union Vote Present on Obama

In a display of opposition to their umbrella union, the Machinists Union, voted present on endorsing Obama. The present vote obviously comes from the fact that Obama, while in the Illinois Senate, cast his vote as Present more than a 120 times. In Illinois you have three voting choices: Yes, No, or Present. Present is routinely used as way to skirt controversial issues. Five other times Obama actually voted the wrong way. His excuse was that he pushed the wrong button.

Here's what President Thomas Buffenbarger of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers wrote this to his members:

At the AFL-CIO meeting this week that endorsed Barack Obama, one union president, Thomas Buffenbarger of the Machinists, voted “present.” In a letter to his members, Buffenbarger explained:

Now is not the right time for the IAM to endorse Senator Barack Obama... Our members feel the economy squeezing their family finances for every last dime, every single week ... But those meat and potato issues have not found a place in the message frame developed by Senator Obama's campaign. To us, hope and change are not antidotes to the economic pressures blue-collar families face... In the Machinists Union, a predominately blue-collar union, the impression continues to grow that Senator Barack Obama could care less about folks like us. At the plant closings in Galesburg [where a Maytag plant moved its operations to Mexico] and Herrin, in llinois and during our fight to save pensions at United Airlines, he never lifted a finger to help our members... In phone calls to IAM members, Senator Obama never broke 18 percent in any state. He came in third, often a distant third, behind Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain. And our union made over a quarter million calls to its members.

It’s not in his letter, but Buffenbarger was also miffed when the Obama campaign failed to respond to phone calls this spring asking him to denounce the Pentagon decision to buy a new tanker fleet from Northrop Grumman, working in cooperation with AIRBUS, rather than from the Chicago-based Boeing company. The Northrop-Grumman planes would have been built partly in Toulouse, France. During the Washington primary in March, Obama had initially offered a tepid criticism of the decision, but at a town meeting in Wilkes Barre during the Pennsylvania primary, Obama had appeared to defend the Pentagon award to Northrop-Grumman and Airbus, infuriating the Machinists whose workers would have built the planes.

The Race Card Played...Again

Yet another Obama supporter has come out and used the race card, but this time against a member of the black community. Patrice C. Queen, a freelance writer from East New York, Brooklyn, has stated that Ed Towns, a black representative of New York, supported Hillary because he was ashamed of his own color. Queen had this to say:

“Racial self-hatred,” said Ms. Queen, who is black. “It was as if they were saying: ‘We people of color are not ready yet. We’re not ready to be in the White House.’ Self-hatred does that to you.”

The moral of the story here is: If you are white and support anybody but Obama – you are a racist. If you are black and support anybody but Obama – then you are filled with racial self-hatred.

Queen must have forgotten that Hillary represents the state of New York, and so does Towns. Usually, if a state fields a viable candidate, the state's representatives line up behind that person. Just like Illinois lined up behind Obama. But that couldn't be the answer. No instead the reason must be because he hates his own color. Using that logic, Queen must hate her own gender. Her statement is just as absurd as if I would have made this statement:

"Hating one's gender," I said. “It was as if she were saying: ‘We women are not ready yet. We’re not ready to be in the White House.’ Hating one's gender does that to you.”

I am so sick and tired of hearing about race in this election. I could scream. Obama is supposedly the post-racial candidate, but yet every other day Obama, his campaign, his supporters or even his pastor makes some ridiculous remark about race.

It looks like we still have a long way to go before we realize Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream:

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

Obama: Leading the Charge Against Anti-Semitism

Question: Who has spoken out against anti-semintism more than anyone else in the world...perhaps in the history of the world?

Answer: Obama

Well at least according to himself. In April he had this to say:

"And nobody has spoken out more fiercely on the issue of anti-Semitism than I have."

Really? Is he serious? That's pretty amazing, if it were even partially true. But of course it's not. I don't think by anyone's standards that statement could be considered close to the truth. It does, however, go along with a familar theme of arrogance by the Obama's. Statements like these from his wife only add to the arrogance:

“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,”

"We have lost the understanding that in a democracy, we have a mutual obligation to one another — that we cannot measure the greatness of our society by the strongest and richest of us, but we have to measure our greatness by the least of these. That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation."

But the anti-semitism statement is not only arrogant – it's degrading. It dimishes many Jews' life long work against anti-semitism. People like Simon Wiesenthal, who after World War II, hunted Nazi's down and brought them to justice. Or Abe Foxman, National Director and chairman of the Anti-Defamation League, and who once won the Interfaith Committee of Remembrance Lifetime Achievement Award "as a leader in the fight against anti-Semitism, bigotry and discrimination." Or Elie Wiesel, who won a Nobel Peace Prize for his fight against evil and discrimination. In fact, here's what the Nobel Committee said about Wiesel:

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has resolved that the Nobel Peace Prize for 1986 should be awarded to the author, Elie Wiesel. It is the Committee's opinion that Elie Wiesel has emerged as one of the most important spiritual leaders and guides in an age when violence, repression and racism continue to characterise the world.

Wiesel is a messenger to mankind; his message is one of peace, atonement and human dignity. His belief that the forces fighting evil in the world can be victorious is a hard-won belief. His message is based on his own personal experience of total humiliation and of the utter contempt for humanity shown in Hitler's death camps. The message is in the form of a testimony, repeated and deepened through the works of a great author.

Wiesel's commitment, which originated in the sufferings of the Jewish people, has been widened to embrace all repressed peoples and races.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee believes that Elie Wiesel, with his message and through his practical work in the cause of peace, is a convincing spokesman for the view of mankind and for the unlimited humanitarianism which are at all times necessary for a lasting and just peace.

Seriously, would anyone actually compare Obama's work to the men mentioned above.

One Too Many Back-Flips

Ever since Hillary conceded the race Obama has repeatedly back flipped on several key issues. But rather than just softening his stance, in some cases he's completely reversed them, and moved decidedly to the right. The latest filp flop is his decision to support legislation granting legal immunity to telecommunications companies that cooperated with the Bush administration’s program of wiretapping without warrants.

During the primary campaign he vowed to fight such legislation. Now in a complete reversal, he supports it. However, last year, he opposed the Protect America Act, which was a similar bill. His flip flops are to be expected. He ran in the primary as an ultra-liberal in order to attract the activist base and at the same time peddled his rhetoric of hope and change and attracted a youth and independent base.

But in order to win the general election a candidate must run closer to the middle. Now that Obama is the presumptive nominee he doesn't need the liberal activist base any longer. So naturally they are the first ones to be thrown under the bus.

The problem with Obama's campaign is that he's also stylized himself as a kind of politician that doesn't play Washington games. What he didn't expect though was an organized backlash from his liberal base. More than 7,000 supporters are using his Web site to protest his decision to support the legislation. Here are what some of his supporters are saying:

“I don’t think there has been another instance where, in meaningful numbers, his supporters have opposed him like this,” said Glenn Greenwald, a Salon.com writer who opposes Mr. Obama’s new position. “For him to suddenly turn around and endorse this proposal is really a betrayal of what so many of his supporters believed he believed in.”

“The opposition to Obama’s position among his supporters is very widespread,” said Jane Hamsher, founder of the Web site firedoglake.com. “His promise to filibuster earlier in the year, and the decision to switch on that is seen as a real character problem. I know people who are really very big Obama supporters are very disillusioned.”

“I have watched your campaign with genuine enthusiasm,” Robert Arellano wrote on, Obama's Web site, “and I have given you money. For the first time in my life, I have sensed the presence of a presidential candidate who might actually bring some meaningful change to the corrupt cesspool of national politics. But your about-face on the FISA bill genuinely angers and alarms me.”

Markos Moulitsas, a liberal blogger and founder of the Daily Kos Web site, said he had decided to cut back on the amount of money he would contribute to the Obama campaign because of the FISA reversal. “I will continue to support him,” Mr. Moulitsas said in an interview. “But I was going to write him a check, and I decided I would rather put that money with Democrats who will uphold the Constitution."

What I don't understand is why the Democrats are pandering to the least popular president and administration in recent history. What are they afraid of? This is why the democrats continued to lose throughout most of Bush's term because they refused to stand up for anything and just gave the Bush administration a blank check.

The one thing that Obama isn't counting on, and it's one thing the liberal activist base might just do, is stay home on election day or vote for a third party. Obama has turned this election cycle in to the year of change and by doing so he's backed himself in to a corner with no way out. Either run to the left and lose the indepent vote or run to the center-right and risk upsetting his base. For now Obama has chosen the center-right. But if he continues to turn against his base they might just decide that it really is a year of change and vote for a third party – now that would be a real change.

Obama and the Christian Right

It's become a standard talking point of Democrats and Liberals over the last two decades to blame everything on the "Christian Right." Obama has followed suite. But when his own pastor was accused of the hatred that Obama was seemingly fighting against, he at first defended his pastor, but then later, when he couldn't stand the heat any longer he got out of the kitchen.

This is what Obama said before his church controversy:

"Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked. Part of it's because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, who've been all too eager to exploit what divides us," he said.

"My intention was to contrast the heated partisan rhetoric of a distinct minority of Christian leaders with the vast majority of Evangelical Christians – conservatives included – who believe that hate has no place in our politics.

"When you have pastors and television pundits who appear to explicitly coordinate with one political party; when you're implying that your fellow Americans are traitors, terrorist sympathizers or akin to the devil himself; then I think you're attempting to hijack the faith of those who follow you for your own personal or political ends," wrote Obama.

Now look at what his own pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, said:

“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.”

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” (Sep 2001)

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.” (2003)

In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.” (magazine article)

“Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.” (sermon)

“Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary would never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.”

Obviously Rev. Wright ironically turned out to be one of those pastors "who appear to explicitly coordinate with one political party; when you're implying that your fellow Americans are traitors, terrorist sympathizers or akin to the devil himself; then I think you're attempting to hijack the faith of those who follow you for your own personal or political ends." And what did Obama initially do – defend him. Even though just a year earlier he railed against those type of people.

Unfortunately Obama talking out of both ends caught up to him – well it sort of did. The Main Stream Media never fully vetted Obama's weekly revisions of history. They just accepted each version as truth. To attend a church for 20 years and never once hear about any of the above statements means Obama is liar, just plain ignorant, or he has simply hyped up his ties to the church and his faith all along.

Are we a Christian Nation?

According to Obama we're not. First he said:

"Whatever we once were, we're no longer a Christian nation. At least not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers,"

Then he clarified:

"I think that the right might worry a bit more about the dangers of sectarianism. Whatever we once were, we're no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers,"

But are we a Christian nation? Well according to the CIA's World Fact Book we are still undoubtedly a Christian nation. About 77 percent of Americans identify themselves as Christian. Another 4.7 percent as Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, or Mormons. While the rest as other, unaffiliated, or none.

Our motto is "In God We Trust," our Pledge still has "One Nation Under God," in it and in the 13 folds of the American flag God is even more pronounced:

"The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie...United States of America, and to the
Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

"The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."

"The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit."

"When the Flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our Nation's motto, 'In God We Trust.'"

Would anyone deny that Israel is not a Jewish nation, Iraq not a Muslim nation, India not a Hindu nation or Thailand not a Buddhist nation? So why do individuals like Obama deny that we a Christian nation? Being a Christian nation doesn't mean we can't have freedom of religion.

In fact, there is a higher percentage of self identified Christians in American than Jews in Israel. If Mormons are included as Christians, 78.5 percent of America is Christian. Without Mormons 76.8 percent are Christians. In Israel 76.4 percent of the population is Jewish. Since no country in the world is 100 percent anything, technically no country can be identified with a religion. But being a Christian nation isn't just about one's belief in Jesus it's also about the principals the country was founded on and the traditions we've inherited.

The biggest celebration in America is Christmas, it's not Ramadan. If Ramadan becomes a bigger celebration then perhaps we can officially say we're not a Christian nation anymore. Until then I would argue we are undoubtedly a Christian nation.

Obama Talks While McCain Walks on Equal Pay

Obama says he supports equal pay for women but in a surprising report it's John McCain that walks the walk and not just talks the talk.

"Mr. McCain is an honorable man, we respect his service. But when you look at our records and our plans on issues that matter to working women, the choice could not be clearer," Obama told the audience in New Mexico, a voter-swing state. "It starts with equal pay. Sixty-two percent of working women in America earn half or more than of their family's income. But women still earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by men in 2008. You'd think that Washington would be united it its determination to fight for equal pay."

But according to a Cybercast News Service on women staff members, Obama pays, on average, $6,000 less to women comapred to the men in his senatorial office. And to the five people in his office that make more than $100,000 only one of them is a woman. In all he had 36 men working for him compared to 31 women.

McCain on the other hand paid his women staffers roughly $3,000 more than their male counterparts. He has 69 staff members, 23 of which are interns. Of his full-time employees, 30 are women and 16 are men.

Hillary on the other hand, on average, paid all of her staff equally. But there was a 2 to 1 ration of women in her officer versus men.

Obama is now criticizing McCain for not supporting a legislative bill that would have extended the limit on how long an employee can wait before suing an employer for pay discrimination. McCain expressed opposition to the bill because he feared it would open the door to too much litigation.

But McCain did make an uninformed statement when he said women needed better training and education.

So what we have here is one man leading by example and the other supporting additional time for litigation.

It's apparently a lot to support one's right to sue rather than to actually implement a fair practice in their own office. McCain, obviously walks the walk on equal pay rather than preaching about it from a high horse. Obama does a good job at talking the talk.

The Race Bandwagon

When republicans start attacking Obama this year and using words like "liberal," "inexperienced," and "unqualified" to describe the junior senate from Illinois, they won't be talking about his resume. Instead, according to Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, an early Obama supporter, they'll be talking about his race. These words, apparently, are secret code words for scary black man.

The Obama campaign has set the stage for all attacks to be spun as racial slurs.

From the Kansas City Star:

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius predicted this week that Republicans would undertake “a major effort to try and frighten people about” Barack Obama because of his race.

“That has been the Republican playbook for the last eight years,” said Sebelius, an Obama ally. “ ‘He’s not qualified. He’s somebody who should scare you. He’s too liberal.’ ”

These are racial “code words” to make voters uncomfortable, said the Democrat, a hot pick for Obama’s running mate.

“I don’t think anybody’s going to go directly at the race issue, but that’s going to be an underlying theme,” she said in an interview this week.

A week before in Florida Obama implied much of the same thing by saying:

“They’re going to try to make you afraid of me,” the presumptive Democratic nominee said. “ ‘He’s young and inexperienced, and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’ ”

Translation: an attack on my resume is an attack on my race.

This is obviously ridiculously absurb and the Obama campaign should be reprimanded for using the race card. For a post-racial candidate he sure does use race a lot – but only when it benefits him. When his pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, was attacked for disparaging white people, Obama quickly distanced himself from the remarks, but stood by the man. He gave a speech on race that was universally applauded. But he certainly didn't come to the aid of Bill Clinton when Clinton was viciously attacked and called a racist after mentioning that Jesse Jackson had won South Carolina twice. Wright's remarks hurt Obama. Clinton's remarks helped Obama. So race is only important when it can be used against Obama's opponents.

Lt. Col. Allen West, a candidate for Congress in Florida and who happens to be black, summed it up the best:

My advice to Senator Obama is to run as a Man and Leader, and the American people will evaluate you as such, not as a victim. This is a Presidential race, based solely on a capacity to lead the United States of America. It is not about skin tone...however, perhaps we should come to expect these immature statements.

It also seems rather humorous that the Presidential candidate who was supposed to be such a "uniter" and transcend race is the one talking about it the most. If Senator Obama was confident in his abilities and character, he would not need to create a crutch for failure. Senator Obama has just tipped his hand, any criticism of him and his policies will be directly attributed to racism. I congratulate Senator Obama for taking race relations in America back some 30 years.

Kerry's Version of Party Unity

When John Kerry headed to the democratic state convention in Massachusetts this month he probably thought it would go similar to the last three times he had shown up – walking away as the undisputed democratic nominee for Senate. But that's exactly what didn't happen. Instead, attorney Ed O'Reilly, showed up as well, and received 23 percent of the vote, that's eight percent more than needed to appear on the primary ballot Sept. 16.

When Kerry realized he was going to actually face a primary challenger for the first time in 24 years he did what every noble politician would do – he called for party unity of course. He approached O'Reilly's delegates and asked them to switch their vote to him in the name of...you guessed it...party unity. This month a former chairman of the Massachusetts state democratic party went so far as to call O'Reilly's candidacy a "nuisance."
It appears party unity this year is when candidates simply give up or don't even start. If that's party unity, I don't to be a part of the party, nor do I want unity. I'd rather the candidates actually participate in democracy...in the process...and see where the chips fall. Democracy isn't annointing a candidate, it's about electing one.

The NObama Network

Another NObama group, The Nobama Network, has formed and officially launched. The Web site has a pretty comprehensive list of Nobama Web sites, blogs and social networking groups – 238 so far.

The Chicago Media's Failure

It's 852 miles between Chicago and Boston. Or about 15 hours of driving time. And that's why it's so amazing that it took the Boston Globe to uncover Obama's failed housing policy while he was an Illinois state senator.

The expose uncovered massive corruption and failure. But what's even more amazing is the fact that Obama would promote this very same policy if he were elected president.

From the Globe

Obama's campaign, in a written response to Globe questions, affirmed the candidate's support of public-private partnerships as an alternative to public housing, saying that Obama has "consistently fought to make livable, affordable housing in mixed-income neighborhoods available to all."

But is this the type of housing most Americans would want to live in:

But a Globe review found that thousands of apartments across Chicago that had been built with local, state, and federal subsidies - including several hundred in Obama's former district - deteriorated so completely that they were no longer habitable.

The Chicago media has simply given Obama a broad pass. The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times are the local media giants in the area. They are the ones who should have uncovered it, written about it and followed it. They didn't, and so the Globe, a newspaper close to 1,000 miles away, had to do it for them.

The buildings in question weren't all owned and operated by slumlord Tony Rezko, who was recently convicted on corruption charges. And who was a friend, fundraiser, and politcal ally of Obama's. That's right there's more than one slumlord in Chicago. But one thing the slumlords have in common is a connection to Obama.

Grove Parc and several other prominent failures were developed and managed by Obama's close friends and political supporters. Those people profited from the subsidies even as many of Obama's constituents suffered. Tenants lost their homes; surrounding neighborhoods were blighted.

Campaign finance records show that six prominent developers - including Jarrett, Davis, and Rezko - collectively contributed more than $175,000 to Obama's campaigns over the last decade and raised hundreds of thousands more from other donors. Rezko alone raised at least $200,000, by Obama's own accounting.

Oh and here's finally an example of Obama working across the aisle, bringing democrats and republicans together.

In 2001, Obama and a Republican colleague, William Peterson, sponsored a successful bill that increased state subsidies for private developers. The law let developers designated by the state raise up to $26 million a year by selling tax credits to Illinois residents. For each $1 in credits purchased, the buyer was allowed to decrease his taxable income by 50 cents.

But Obama has an excellent answer to Chicago's affordable housing.

"But Obama has contended that he knew nothing about any problems in Rezmar's buildings."

"Residents say the complex deteriorated under Moorehead's management and continued to decline after Habitat took over. A maintenance worker at the complex says money often wasn't even available for steel wool to plug rat holes. But as late as 2003, a routine federal inspection still gave conditions at Grove Parc a score of 82 on a 100-point scale.

When inspectors returned in 2005, they found conditions were significantly worse. Inspectors gave the complex a score of 56 and warned that improvements were necessary. They returned the following year and found things had reached a new low. Grove Parc got a score of 11 and a final warning. Three months later, inspectors found there had been insufficient improvements and moved to seize the complex from Woodlawn Preservation."

"By the time Obama entered the state Senate in 1997, the buildings were beginning to deteriorate. In January 1997, the city sued Rezmar for failing to provide adequate heat in a South Side building in the middle of an unusually cold winter. It was one of more than two dozen housing-complaint suits filed by the city against Rezmar for violations at its properties."

"Sharee Jones, who lives in another former Rezko building one block away, said her apartment was rat-infested for years. "You could hear them under the floor and in the walls, and they didn't do nothing about it," Jones said."

"All the while, Tony Rezko was forging a close friendship with Barack Obama. When Obama opened his campaign for state Senate in 1995, Rezko's companies gave Obama $2,000 on the first day of fund-raising. Save for a $500 contribution from another lawyer, Obama didn't raise another penny for six weeks. Rezko had essentially seeded the start of Obama's political career."

"Over roughly the past decade, Davis's companies have received more than $100 million in subsidies to renovate and build more than 1,500 apartments in Chicago, according to a Chicago Sun-Times tally. In several cases, Davis partnered with Tony Rezko. In 1998 the two men created a limited partnership to build an apartment building for seniors on Chicago's South Side. Obama wrote letters on state Senate stationery supporting city and state loans for the project."

Debra Bartoshevich Silenced

Debra Bartoshevich is from Wisconsin. She's a Hillary supporter. She's one of Hill's delegates to the national convention in August. And she's not happy with Barack Obama as the nominee.

In fact, she's so unhappy, she exercised her constitutional right to freedom of speech when she made a public announcement that she would be casting her vote for John McCain in November.

And so the Wisconsin Democratic Party is seeking to challenge her status as a delegate before the almighty Credentials Committee. She broke the rules and thus she must be removed.

The WDP had this to say:

"Democratic Party of Wisconsin and its members have been embarrassed in the local and national media by the decision of Ms. Bartoshevich to endorse Senator McCain.”

Apparently to become a delegate you have to sign away your right to vote in the general election. According the party's rules you have to pledge to vote for the party nominee no matter who it is.

Those may be the rules, but if they rules are fundamentally opposed to our constitutional rights, they need to be changed. It's one thing for a delegate to haveto vote for the person that won their district, that's understandable. Their job is to carry their consitutients' preference to the convention. But once they leave that convention and step in to a voting booth, what gives the democratic party the right or power to tell them who to vote for? That's not democracy. And it has no place within the democratic party.

John Barrow's Cut and Run

Bush Democrat John Barrow in Georgia released an AD in 2006 telling his constituients that he opposed the democrats who wanted to "cut and run" in Iraq. He has disparged the democratic party and yet Obama is not only supporting him, he's recorded a radio AD for the guy. Why? Because Barrow is facing a primary challenge against Regina Thomas, who happens to be a true liberal. Supposedly, Obama thinks Barrow is more electable. Isn't it ironic that Obama is supporting the more "electable" candidate even when the candidate doesn't believe in Obama's left-wing agenda. Obama should be grateful for all of the superdelegates who supported him even though he's not more "electable."

That's ironic since Obama originally did not want to seat the delegation at all. Wexler recently published a book, Fire Breathing Liberal...I think it should have been called Fire Breathing Hypocrite. The self-described champion of voters rights is more of a spineless congressman who sold out his constituents in favor of politics.

Party Unity My Ass

If you would have watched CNN yesterday there was a lot of coverage of the Hillary and Obama Unity event held in New Hampshire. But what you may not have seen is the dissension that still exists within the democratic party. Ever since Hillary conceded the race, and even before that, more and more blogs and Web sites have sprouted up opposing Obama as the nominee. Organizations Like PUMA (Party Unity My Ass) and Just Say No Deal are just two examples.

In New Hampshire Hillary supporters James McConaha, a former Clinton administration official, and his wife, Valery Mitchell, are chairing the "New Hampshire Democrats for McCain." McConaha released a statement:

"I think in general both of us felt that this is such an important position, perhaps the most important job in the world that it requires a person who has the experience and the competence to hold it. We just liked Senator McCain for a lot of reasons. In our minds, he is that person."

And apparently Obama is still negotiating whether or not there will be a roll call vote at the democratic convention in August. In a roll call vote each delegate at the convention would have to actually state who they are supporting. It seems once again that the democrats are trying to take democracy out of the process. This shouldn't even be a discussion. So much for the party where every vote counts. I cast my vote for Hillary and I want my delegate to state that preference.

In Wisconsin Hillary delegate, Debra Bartoshevich, has announced she will support John McCain in November. Instead of the Obama campaign personally calling her to win her over, the Wisconsin democratic party filed a charge against her to unseat her as a delegate.

This is a part of the official charge: "Democratic Party of Wisconsin and its members have been embarrassed in the local and national media by the decision of Ms. Bartoshevich to endorse Senator McCain.”

Embarrassed by an individual stating their preference for President. Hmmm...I thought that was called democracy. You know that little constitutional right called freedom of speech.

The democrats are ignoring the growing fraction of dissatisfied Hillary supporters. They want to silence us. They want us to shut up and fall in to line. This is not the way to create party unity. There's 18 million voices that need to be heard and if the democrats won't listen we'll take our votes elsewhere.

Pelosi's VP Flip -Flop

Fatal Attraction

Should we support Nikki Tinker for Tennesse's 9th district? Her opponet, incumbent Congressman Steve Cohen is an early supporter of Obama. But his biggest transgression is when he compared Hillary to the lover-turned-stalker from the hit movie "Fatal Attraction."

This is what Cohen said when he was asked about whether Hillary should drop out:

"Glenn Close should have just stayed in the tub."

This was followed on the heels of others making similar remarks about Hillary. Before Cohen, NPR political editor Ken Rudin, made a similar joke: Clinton was "Glenn Close in 'Fatal Attraction' -- she's going to keep coming back, and they're not going to stop her." And before that Chris Rock said "It's going to be hard for Barack to be president. ... Hillary's not going to give up. She's like Glenn Close in 'Fatal Attraction.'"

Hmmm...and the media wonders why Hillary supporters claim that sexism was used in the primary campaign. To be fair both Rudin and Cohen both apologized.

But even though Cohen apologized, he later showed that, that apology wasn't sincere when he said this after Emily's List endorsed Tinker:

"Just a little joke about getting out of the race and all of a sudden I'm a misogynist,"

Oh and he threw his own bit of reverse sexism in to the mix when commented about why Emily's List endorsed Tinker:

"It's because I'm a man," Cohen says. "And it's a woman thing."

The reason I am hesitant to support Tinker is because some of the tactics used by her supporters have been disgusting. Cohen, who's white and Jewish, has faced a barrage of reverse racism and anti-semitism attacks.

You would assume that a candidate who has faced such attacks would not compare the first woman to win a democratic primary and won the most votes ever cast for a candidate, to a pshychopath who attempted suicide, attempted murder, kidnapped a child, and killed a pet rabbit and boiled it on the stove.

Regina Calls it Like She Sees it

For those of you who don't know Regina Thomas, she's challenging incumbent John Barrow for Congress in Georgia' 12th district. Obama has recently endorsed Barrow even though Barrow has voted more often with Bush than not, since being elected in 2004. Here's a few questions and answers from a recent interview with Thomas. Here's the full Q&A.

How did it feel, to have Senator Obama endorse your opponent, John Barrow?

Well, I expected that, so it didn’t have any effect on me. I knew that Senator Obama would do that. He (John Barrow) is an incumbent, and also a Superdelegate, who gave Barack Obama his Superdelegate vote. So in essence, it was ‘payback time.’

In light of that, do you think the Democratic Party is in disarray at the moment?

Well, as a rule, the Democratic Party is not supposed to endorse candidates when there is opposition from within the Party. However, individual Democrats can do whatever they want to do. So, I think that the Democratic Party has been pretty much imitating the Right-Wing, and I feel that we need to remain true to who we are, what we believe, and the people we stand for.

So far, how’s your campaign been going?

My campaign is going fantastic, and ever since Senator Obama endorsed my opponent, my campaign has been turned up a notch.

Kerry Attacked on All Sides

John Kerry may be in for fight of life this election cycle. He's being challenged in the democratic primary – the first time in 24 years. More people disapprove of Kerry than approve of him according to poll numbers. And even if he wins the primary it seems he will face off against a strong republican challenger. Oh and he was recently snubbed by the Boston democratic establishment.

His democratic challenger, Ed O'Reilly, was a relatively unknown man up until a month ago. In Massachusetts one needs at least 15 percent of party delegates to vote for you to be on the ballot – O'Reilly received 23 percent. Some people suggest that angry Hillary supporters wanted to send Kerry a loud and clear message. And it worked, not only is Kerry facing a primary challenge he also met with Hillary supporters and agreed to make a speech about how sexism played out in this campaign. Hillary supporters also asked him to endorse Hillary for the VP spot, but he wouldn't go that far.

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino could have rallied his loyalists around Kerry at the state convention – but he didn't even show up. Menino and Kerry both deny the obvious snub.

Here's what Menino had to say about Kerry in 2004:

But operatives say privately that there is no love lost between the two. The bad blood can be traced to a bitter public feud during the 2004 Democratic National Convention, when Kerry skipped a speech to urban mayors hosted by Menino.

Menino also blasted Kerry’s campaign as “incompetent” at the time and slammed the senator for intervening in a contract dispute between the mayor and the police union that was disrupting the DNC.

And finally there's Jeff Beatty. He's a republican running in the most democratic state in the union so it's a long shot to be sure. But stranger things have happened.

Here's a quick look at Beatty:

Beatty is a retired US Army Delta Force assault team commander, a former CIA counter-terrorist agent and served the FBI as a hostage crisis analyst. Beatty, a Harwich, Massachusetts resident recently sold a security consulting firm which he founded and ran for 12 years. This guy would make Tom Clancy blush. Beatty has appeared on all major television networks as a national security analyst. In that capacity:

• He predicted a package bombing 6 months before the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta

• He sent letters out to major airlines warning them to “harden the cockpit doors”. He urged security measures to prepare for hijackers who may use the planes as missiles. These letters went out in April of 2001.

• He was on the first Black Hawk helicopter ever shot down and then rescued American medical students in Grenada after he was wounded in the crash.

According to polls Kerry soundly beats any republican challenger including Beatty. But when those people are allowed to review Beatty's extensive resume and credentials those numbers dramatically shift and leave Kerry and Beatty in a tie. Beatty is also trying to make inroads in one of the democrats' most loyal groups – labor. He's meeting with labor groups around the state and reminding them of Kerry's stance on illegal immigration, always a sticking point with organized labor.

Only time will tell if any these ominous signs translate in to votes against Kerry at either the primary level or in the general election. But one thing's for sure we'll be keeping a close watch.

O'Reilly Race: Challengers are Nuisances

The so-called democratic establishment in Massachusetts apparently doesn't like the democratic process very much – at least when it comes to candidates running for office. The *former democratic party chairman of Mass, Chester Atkins, had the audacity to call John Kerry's democratic challenger a "nuisance."

From Cape Cod Today:

“John is an important senator, an important partner to Ted Kennedy and an important national voice. To have John distracted by someone who is just a nuisance candidate would be unfortunate.” - Chester Atkins

This is an outrage. First and foremost this is a former state democratic chairperson making this statement. He is entitled to his beliefs, but being a former chairperson he should hold his tongue. A democrat should never actively diminish the democratic process – especially the chairperson.

Secondly, it's obvious at least 23 percent (only 15 percent is needed to get on the ballot) of the state's delegates are unhappy with Kerry. They chose Ed O'Reilly to challenge him. The party chairman should respect that enough to keep his mouth shut.

But maybe Atkins is still bitter.

In 1990 Atkins narrowly won re-election in Massachusetts' 5th district. Two years later he was defeated in a primary challenge against another democrat. So it makes sense Atkins does not like primary challenges. What's even more interesting is in that same district in 1972 John Kerry was running for Congress. And he lost to a republican.

So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Is Pelosi in Troube? I hope so!

It seems like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may be facing a serious challenge this year from anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan. When I first heard that Sheehan was going to challenge the most powerful woman in the House I didn't think she had a shot in hell. Now I'm revising that opinion. She could actually pose a serious threat to Pelosi. Remember in 2006 Democratic Senate Minority leader Tom Daschle lost against republican John Thune. So it's not unheard of for a leader in congress to lose their seat.

Sheehan's candidacy is gaining credibility every day. She's been endorsed by Ralph Nader, the Peace and Love party in San Francisco and by the front funner for the presidential nomination for the Green Party, Cynthia McKinney. And yesterday McKinney agreed to be Sheehan's honorary campaign co-chair. McKinney is a former democratic congresswoman who left the party to join the Green Party in part because of Pelosi's leadership or lack thereof. In most places in the U.S. most people wouldn't think twice about the Green Party, but Pelosi represents the most liberal city in America – San Francisco. Just a few years ago the mayor of San Fran, Gavin Newsom, faced a serious threat from his Green Party opponent and Newsom is a guy who broke the law to sanction gay marriage.

The Green Party didn't take their endorsement lightly either. They interviewed Sheehan first to make sure she wasn't just a one-issue candidate. They only endorsed after finding her competent and knowledgeable on a wide range of issues.

In other bad news for Pelosi her poll ratings are in the gutter. Just 24 percent approve of her leadership while 57 percent disapprove. To top it off Sheehan's campaign has raised close to $200,000 so far.

Before Sheehan can face Pelosi though she first has to get on the ballot. So far has 3,500 signatures, but still needs about 7,000 more. She has until August.

Regina Thomas Receives Surprise Support

Regina Thomas, the (real) democrat running for Georgia's 12th district, received support in the most unusual of places yesterday – the republican party. Thomas is running against John Barrow, who over the course of the last four years has supported Bush more often than not. He recently voted for warrantless wiretapping compromising all Americans' right to privacy. But for some reason Obama decided to record an AD on his behalf, even though his positions are far more similar to Thomas' positions.

But in a surprising move the republican candidate running for the 12th district, Ray McKinney, sent out a press release criticizing Obama while praising Thomas.

McKinney said this:

“How can the presidential candidate who always talks about change now endorse the status quo candidate for Congress?” said McKinney (R-Savannah).

“I can see how supporters of Regina Thomas might feel betrayed. Sen. Thomas and I disagree on several issues, but I admire her honesty and courage to speak what she believes. She deserves better than blatant hypocrisy from both Barrow and Obama.”

“It really looks like Obama is rewarding Barrow for being one of the first super-delegates to endorse Obama last February,” McKinney said. “Whatever the reason, Obama is supporting a candidate who disagrees with him on the Iraq War, Bush’s tax cuts and a number of other key issues. This isn’t change. It’s quite simply more politics-as-usual.”

Of course Mckinney would probably rather face off against Thomas during the general election because Barrow is closer to many of his own positions. But for now, who cares, Thomas needs enough support right now to defeat Barrow on July 15. Then we can worry about McKinney.

Obama's Axis of Evil Endorsement

For those of you keeping track Obama has now been endorsed by Fidel Castro, Hugo Chevez and Manuel Noriega. His latest endorsement is no less disturbing: North Korea's Kim Jong-II. So besides superdelegates Obama is also quickly gathering up the support of the world's most notorious dictators. Oh and at least one terrorist organization, Hamas.

So I guess Obama offers these infamous leaders change they can believe in...but is that the sort of change we can believe in.
